Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum

If you have read my blog post called Hair Help, you’ll know that I’ve been having a lot of issues with my hair. To put a long story short, I was experiencing stress related hair loss, and it really sucked. I’m very happy to report that it has finally stopped, and I’m back to heat styling my hair. It feels so amazing to run my hands through my hair and not have any come out. I feel like a new person! I wanted to talk about a product that I was using during my hair loss, and have loved and continued using post Telogen effluvium (the technical term for stress related hair loss).

Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum – $15.00 CAD

I have the little mini size of this hair serum, my boyfriend surprised me with it because he knew I was having a really hard time with my hair. He’s the best. I have the trial size here, so it’s only half of an ounce, but there are bigger bottles available. I don’t even mind having the small bottle because a very small amount of product goes a very long way.

The pump is really lovely on the packaging, but I find it pumps out a little too much product for me, because I have medium length hair that’s super thin right now, if I use more than half a pump things tends to get oily and funky looking. I would suggest using about half of what you think you’d need. Now on to the actual product: this serum is really lovely. It’s thicker than your average oil, but still translucent and not nearly as thick as a lotion. The oil smells really nice as well. It’s got a nice light and fresh scent that has a hint of citrus. The serum sinks in quickly to damp hair, and keeps things moisturized and helps cut air drying time somewhat.

This product claims to have anti-frizz and high shine properties. I can attest to the shine factor, however I don’t think it does much in the anti-frizz department, which is ok with me as I’m mainly looking for moisture. I’ve used this serum when air drying my hair as well as using heat styling tools, and the effects are pretty much the same either way. The serum helps to add some moisture to the ends of my hair, and adds a nice fragrance and some shine.

Overall I do like this product, however I’m not sure it’s a holy grail product. I wouldn’t recommend running out and buying it immediately, but if you’re looking to give the ends of your hair a little TLC, or want to try a more natural hair care product, I think this would be a good place to start.

Live Clean Oil

Ok ok, I’m a blogger failure. Just know I acknowledge my recent absences from blogging and I feel a pang on guilt every time I think about it. Things have been crazy busy for me, and I think the next few weeks will be sort of the same, but coming up I’m moving into a full time position at a job, so some semblance of a schedule will start to form in my world, making blogging time an easier fit. Things get hard when you work multiple jobs and have recreational spots and significant others.

To get back into the groove of things, I wanted to talk about a product that I really have been enjoying using.

Live Clean Professional Miracle Nutrition Oil – $9.99 CAD

I super randomly picked up this oil while on a shopping trip to the Real Canadian Superstore. At the time I didn’t even know that Live Clean had come out with a ‘professional’ line, but I was excited to see a hair treatment at a very affordable price. The dual coloured oil really suckered me into the purchase. It’s just so pretty! The packaging is nice and functional for the product, the pump ensures that you don’t end up getting oil all over the place, or all over the bottle.

When you shake up the bottle, the oil turns into a gorgeous orange shade. About a pump and a half is enough to coat the mid to end lengths of my hair. I’ve even used this on my scalp when I was desperate for a little TLC. This is a pre-shower treatment, meaning you coat your hair with the oil, throw it up in a bun, and let it soak in for about 10 minutes before you shampoo it out. This oil is awesome, it’s not super slippery, and it washes out really nicely. And I’d just like to take a moment and talk about the scent. OH MY GOSH the scent is so amazing. It smells really light, kind of fruity, and kind of floral as well. It smells so good, and if you’re careful to not douse your hair in shampoo the scent sticks around.

I’ve found that with this treatment, I can eliminate any need for a hair conditioner. I like to put this in my hair, then shampoo it out and be on my way. The oil washes out really nicely and I haven’t found it to leave my hair feeling greasy or weighed down, which is a huge bonus. I’ve tried a few other products from the professional line from Live Clean and I’m really liking what I’m seeing.

Current Shampoo and Conditioner

** Update: OGX, formerly Organix, is no longer cruelty free

I’ve reached a time where every time I wash my hair I know I’m going to have a good hair day. When I find a combination of products that just works I feel like I’m obliged to share.

OGX Coconut Water Shampoo – $7.99 CAD

Marketed as weightless hydration, I was kind of skeptical about this shampoo. I don’t have particularly dry hair, but I’ve noticed lately that my skin in general has changed from oily to dry. Unfortunately for me this includes my scalp. I’ve been having some serious dandruff issues, and I’ve noticed that since using this ‘hydrating’ shampoo, my flaky scalp issue has pretty much totally gone away. I think this shampoo is generally less harsh than others which adds to the remedy. This shampoo lathers up like no other as well, which is lovely and really makes my hair feel super clean. The smell is AMAZING. Coconutty as expected, but not in an overwhelming or sickly way. Just super clean and slightly tropical smelling. I really am impressed with this shampoo.

Weleda Oat Replenishing Treatment – $15.99 CAD

If you’ve been following this blog for a while you’ll know that I don’t use regular conditioners in my hair. I only wash my hair twice a week, and I always follow up my shampoo with a deep conditioner. For some people this may be overkill but my hair can handle it with ease. This deep conditioner in particular is kind of strange. When you squeeze out the conditioner and apply it to your hair it kind of foams up. Totally bizarre but it really makes my hair feel super soft and nourished. I leave it on for about 5 minutes in the shower and then rinse it out. This deep conditioner rinses out beautifully and never leaves any residue. It smells kind of like lemon meringue pie. I’ve had this deep conditioner for a few months and it’s still going strong, you only need a little to get the job done.
