Face of the Day – Simply Spring

Is anyone else just totally inspired by the fresh new season? I don’t know what it is but this Spring feels like the first time I’ve seen sunlight in my life. I was inspired by the sunshine to do a quick and simple face of the day.

FACE & LIPS

Once the weather warms up I like to try and use the fewest amount of products possible. My skin was behaving so I just used the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint in the shade Porcelain as my base. Since my skin has become more dry I find I don’t even need a powder to set this product. I added some brightness to my face with the Milani Coral Cove blush using the Real Techniques Duo Fiber Face Brush for a soft finish. To match I quickly put on the Bite Beauty BB for Lips in the shade Flushed. I think the lip colour complimented the blush quite nicely, if I do say so myself.

EYES

Eyes, as per my usual, were kept simple. I used the shade Skimp (the lightest) from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette all over my lid with the Eco Tools Blend and Smudge Brush, and then fanned the shade Frisk (third from the left) through my crease with the Real Techniques Angled Shadow Brush. A quick one two punch that I find I can always go-to when I’m in a rush or just downright lazy. I added a little nude liner (the NYX Wonder Pencil) to my waterline, and added mascara from Pur Minerals… my absolute holy grail. For my brows, I used the shade Undone (the darkest) from the same palette on my Tarte Shape Shifter Double-Ended Bamboo Brow Brush, and sealed all that powder in with the essence Brow Gel.

I feel like this would be a great face for when you’re out and about in the sun. I’ve got all my SPF needs covered, and have the ability to sweat and not have make up literally all over my face.

Face of the Day – Anniversary

The last day of February is my boyfriend and I’s 3 year anniversary. Pretty crazy to think we’ve been together for 3 years now, it definitely does not feel like it’s been that long, which is a good thing I suppose. I’ve lucked out to have such an amazing boyfriend and best friend. As you all know I got my wisdom teeth out and he was so amazing and took such great care of me. For our anniversary we like to keep it low key (notice a trend here?), we usually treat ourselves to a nice dinner at a restaurant we’ve never been to, and then stay cosy and enjoy each others company. I thought I’d post the look I plan to wear for our anniversary dinner.

FACE

For my base, there’s no surprises here when I say I used the Flower Beauty About Face Foundation. I blended the foundation into my skin with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for a flawless and natural finish. I set everything with the Tarte Smooth Operator Finishing Powder, which I have totally fallen in love with, and use the Real Techniques Multitask Brush. Lastly I contoured my cheek bones with the Tarte Park Avenue Princess Matte Bronzer using the Real Techniques Cheek Brush.

EYES

This is where I had some fun. I used the shade Undone from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics palette to fill in my brows with the Tarte Shape Shifter Doubled Ended Bamboo Brow Brush. I started my eye look out by priming my lids with the ELF Essential Eyelid Primer in the shade Sheer. This just keeps things from moving around or creasing. I started by using the lightest shade from the Essence 3D Eyeshadow duo all over the lid with the EcoTools Full Eyeshadow Brush. I went in and fanned the Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in the shade Chestnut through my crease using the Real Techniques Angled Crease Brush. I then went in for a pretty modest winged liner look using the Essence Eyeliner Pen, and topped everything off with a coat of Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes mascara.

Lips & Cheeks

To warm up my face just a little more, I applied the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in the shade Mood Exposure with the Real Techniques Blush Brush. To tie everything together I finished up my look with the Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in the shade 07 Natural Beauty.

And that’s it for my look. Next up is my February Favorites going up on the 27th. That post will be the first that I write after getting my wisdom teeth out, so if it seems a bit off, it’s because I’m high as a kite and have no idea what’s going on.

Empties #4

I’ve accumulated a few empty products, so I figured the time was right to share my thoughts on stuff I’ve used up. If you read my last post, you’ll know today I am getting my wisdom teeth out, so I scheduled the next week of posts so that my blog wouldn’t be completely neglected. The comments may go unanswered for a few days, but I promise once I’m feeling a bit more spry I’ll be back!

I *finally* finished up my bottle of Dr.Bronners Magic Soap in the Rose scent. This was one of the first reviews I ever did, so it goes to show you how long one bottle can last. It’s great for washing brushes, or general cleaning. I did repurchase, however I picked up the peppermint scent because while I know the rose scent cleanses my brushes just the same, it just feels cleaner. I’m weird. I also finished up the EOS Shave Cream in the Vanilla Bliss scent. While I liked what this product did in terms of moisturization, I felt like I went through the bottle so fast, and a lot got stuck at the bottom and I just couldn’t get it out. It also tended to clog up my razor so I’m not planning on repurchasing any time soon. I polished off my Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. I really enjoyed using this as a cleanser both morning and night. I feel like it made my skin super clean and wasn’t too harsh at all. I would definitely repurchase this product once I’ve used up some other skincare I’ve got laying around.

The Hello Toothpaste in the flavour Supermint was both a hit and a miss for me. I liked the way it tasted and felt of my teeth. Initially I loved the packaging, but as the product got used up, it was so hard to get it out of the bottle. You can see how mangled the top is from me trying to get it off and squeeze out more toothpaste. While I liked it, this huge flaw in packaging is a real bummer because you end up wasting so much product. On the other hand, with the Jouer Anti Blemish Primer, I squeezed out every last drop. I seriously loved this primer when my skin was acting up. Now that things have settled down I don’t feel the need to repurchase, but if you’re prone to breakouts give this stuff a shot, it’s amazing. Last up is The Body Shop Honeymania Body Butter. This stuff was so delicious to moisturize your skin with. The scent was amazing, I really liked the thickness and how it made my skin feel. A+ product for me.

That’s all the products I’ve used up for now. I’m trying to get through all my makeup and not buy anymore until I’ve used some up, so hopefully I’ve got more makeup products in the next empties post.
