Empties #4

I’ve accumulated a few empty products, so I figured the time was right to share my thoughts on stuff I’ve used up. If you read my last post, you’ll know today I am getting my wisdom teeth out, so I scheduled the next week of posts so that my blog wouldn’t be completely neglected. The comments may go unanswered for a few days, but I promise once I’m feeling a bit more spry I’ll be back!

I *finally* finished up my bottle of Dr.Bronners Magic Soap in the Rose scent. This was one of the first reviews I ever did, so it goes to show you how long one bottle can last. It’s great for washing brushes, or general cleaning. I did repurchase, however I picked up the peppermint scent because while I know the rose scent cleanses my brushes just the same, it just feels cleaner. I’m weird. I also finished up the EOS Shave Cream in the Vanilla Bliss scent. While I liked what this product did in terms of moisturization, I felt like I went through the bottle so fast, and a lot got stuck at the bottom and I just couldn’t get it out. It also tended to clog up my razor so I’m not planning on repurchasing any time soon. I polished off my Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. I really enjoyed using this as a cleanser both morning and night. I feel like it made my skin super clean and wasn’t too harsh at all. I would definitely repurchase this product once I’ve used up some other skincare I’ve got laying around.

The Hello Toothpaste in the flavour Supermint was both a hit and a miss for me. I liked the way it tasted and felt of my teeth. Initially I loved the packaging, but as the product got used up, it was so hard to get it out of the bottle. You can see how mangled the top is from me trying to get it off and squeeze out more toothpaste. While I liked it, this huge flaw in packaging is a real bummer because you end up wasting so much product. On the other hand, with the Jouer Anti Blemish Primer, I squeezed out every last drop. I seriously loved this primer when my skin was acting up. Now that things have settled down I don’t feel the need to repurchase, but if you’re prone to breakouts give this stuff a shot, it’s amazing. Last up is The Body Shop Honeymania Body Butter. This stuff was so delicious to moisturize your skin with. The scent was amazing, I really liked the thickness and how it made my skin feel. A+ product for me.

That’s all the products I’ve used up for now. I’m trying to get through all my makeup and not buy anymore until I’ve used some up, so hopefully I’ve got more makeup products in the next empties post.

Current Skincare Products

Of course as I sit down to write this post, my skin is having a temper tantrum. I was about to rave about how clear my skin has been lately, but of course Mother Nature has to come in and rain on my parade. The current little breakouts I’m experiencing are compliments of PMS, and thankfully are nothing like what I used to experience. Because my skin has been so kind to me, I figured I’d let you all in on what I’ve been using for AM, PM and weekly skin cleansing and pampering.

MORNING

I like to keep my morning routine as simple as possible. I simply wash my face (usually in the shower) and moisturize. I know my Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser looks empty, it’s about half full, and I have been using this stuff faithfully. I really love what this does for my skin. It’s so deeply cleansing, yet not harsh at all. Once I started using this, I really started to see a dramatic clearing in my skin. I follow up with the Yes to Cucumbers Daily Calming Moisturizer. To be honest, I haven’t had this a for a long time. I do really love the scent, as to be expected is smells like cucumbers, and it’s rich enough for my skin that has been really dry lately. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all.

NIGHT

Alright here’s where things get a little high maintenance. I accidentally picked up the waterproof version of a mascara I really like, so I’ve been using Jojoba Oil just on my lashes to initially break up the mascara. I used to use coconut oil, however I found that it gave me horrible cystic acne. I haven’t noticed that jojoba oil clogs the skin around my eyes at all, and it conditions my lashes really nicely – not to mention gently removing stubborn waterproof mascara. I then wash off the make up on the rest of my face with the Soap Works Creamy Clay soap. I’ve loved this soap for quite some time, it really cleanses the skin and removes every trace of make up. I then follow up with my Juice Beauty Cleanser, and the same Yes to Cucumbers moisturizer. I would like to find a nice deeply moisturizing night cream as my skin has started to shift from very oily to dry.

WEEKLY

Lastly, I do like to treat my skin every now and then. I was using my Foreo Luna twice daily, however I found that it was starting to be a bit much for my skin, so now I use it once to twice a week to exfoliate my skin. I really like how my skin feels after I use this gadget. Also, I’ve had my Luna since the end of July and have yet to need to charge it. I also like to use a clay mask once a week. I currently am using this one from Live Clean, which is a lovely affordable option, I also like this one from REN for when I’m feeling spendy.

Juice Beauty Cleanser

As much as I have loved using soaps from The Soap Works for cleansing my face morning and night, I’m a blogger and I love to try out new products. With that being said, I have really sensitive and reactive skin so I have to be careful about how often I switch things up. I’ve been using a new cleanser that I’m really happy with, and I’d like to let you know why.

Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser – $24.00 CAD

I’ve been using this cleanser in combination with the Luna for ultra sensitive skin, and I really like the way this makes my skin feel. My skin feels so clean when using this cleanser, but not overly dry at all. This cleanser is designed for oily, combination, and blemish prone skin types, which my skin is most definitely oily and blemish prone. This cleanser lathers up really nicely, and I find that using my hands still gets my skin feeling squeaky clean.

The pump is fantastic for making it easy to get the product into your hands and on your face. I feel as though the pump gives you a little bit too much product, so I typically use about half of a pump. The claims are that this cleanser clarifies with organic lemon & cherry fruit acids, which I can most definitely feel. If you’ve picked at a blemish and then use this cleanser, it actually stings the open zit. The stinging isn’t pleasant, but for me it’s a great deterrent and helps me from popping any blemishes – which we all know is bad for our skin but we all do it anyways.

One thing I don’t like is the scent of this product. I can’t really put my finger on it, but it kind of smells like juice that’s gone sour. I can get over it because I really like the way it makes my skin feel, and I feel as though it does a great job at actually cleansing my skin in a hydrating way. I really want to try out the serum and moisturizer from this line, and luckily they make a little starter kit with those products, and the blemish clearing cleanser, for $40 Canadian.
