That’s a Lot of Lipstick

I’m not really sure were I’m going with today’s blog post, but I was looking through my make up collection the other day and I was absolutely floored by the amount of lip products I have. Case in point the photos below.

I feel like a lot of people will be like ‘oh that’s not very many lip products’ however I never wear lipstick, gloss, or coloured lip products. Like ever. I don’t know what it is, but it’s my biggest make up insecurity. I feel like my thought process goes something like this: ‘ohh that’s pretty, but I never wear lip products, but I’m sure if I have a nice colour like this I’ll wear it.’ So I buy the darn lipstick and it never ends up getting worn. This is a vicious cycle that I need to break.

Like seriously I have 5 lip glosses and I only ever wear one of them because it looks extremely natural. I have a problem. Does anyone else have any make up products that they hoard yet they never use? Tell me your stories!! I don’t want to feel alone in this.

Also, as a little bonus, I found a dupe in my collection as I was having a massive swatch fest.

In the bullet they look totally different. But the essence lipstick in number 7 natural beauty (about 3 bucks) and the Bite Beauty lipstick in Fig (28 bucks) are pretty darn similar.

The Bite Beauty lipstick (swatched right) is slightly warmer and a bit creamier, but they are basically the same shade.

Bite Fig

I feel like we all have that one beauty item that we lust and lust after, but never end up actually buying. You’ll go to Sephora, or the drugstore and test it out. Maybe even carry it around the store with you while you browse, but for whatever reason, you always end up backing out at the last minute. For me, this was the Bite lipstick in the shade Fig. Everyone always raves about how awesome it is, but for some reason I never could justify actually purchasing it. Until I was having a treat yourself moment in Seattle.

Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Fig – $28.00 CAD

Bite describes this lipstick as a rose nude. Pretty accurate, I think. It’s one of those ‘my lips but better’ kind of shades. Super gorgeous and really flattering on fair skin tones.

The packaging, as with all Bite products, its great. A nice rubberized matte black tube that feels sturdy and significant.

The actual lipstick itself has a really nice, creamy texture. It doesn’t cling to dry patches, though I do always exfoliate my lips if I know I’m going to be wearing a lipstick. The formula doesn’t hang around forever, but then again this doesn’t claim to be a long lasting lipstick. About 4 hours without eating and you’ll want to consider touching up. Pretty standard stuff. Where this lipstick really excels is in the ingredients. The only downside to having great moisturizing and clean ingredients is that the lipstick itself is really soft. So if you apply your lipsticks firmly, be careful as I could totally see this snapping in two.

I think this is a shade you could totally wear with a neutral eye, a smokey eye, or just as a pop of colour on a minimal look. It’s got a beautiful natural cream finish, so if you’re looking for a matte lipstick you’ll need to turn elsewhere in the Bite collection.

This lipstick has quickly become one of my favourites for the office.

Where is Spring?

It’s March! I’m so excited that January and February are over. To me March is the beginning of the good months, sure it will rain a lot, but it’s finally sunny and not totally freezing. I picked up a few goodies from The Body Shop without totally realizing that I want Spring, and I want it now.

The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Velvet in Poppy Coral – $15.00 CAD

DSC_0003

We all knew I was going to buy at least one of these lip velvets. My friend April from Blushing Biddies actually Tweeted me to let me know that these were launching. From then I raced over to the Body Shop to give them a swatch. I decided on the shade Poppy Coral because it was the most flattering for me. The texture is quite hard, and it takes a bit of elbow grease to blend in, but overall I really like the look. It’s a matte formula (not all the shades are matte despite what they’re marketing) that’s somewhat sheer and buildable. The shade is the perfect pinky coral that I think would suit at lot of people. It’s easy to just slap on the cheeks and blend. This lip velvet is also very purse and touch up friendly.

I’m not a massive fan of these on the lips. At first the colour is nice and natural because it’s matte and somewhat sheer, but I find it to be a bit too drying for me at the moment. Maybe in the summer when things are less dry.

Colour Crush Nail Polish in Rosy Cheeks – $6.00 CAD

DSC_0021

I had my eye on this shade when the whole range first launched. I’m a big fan of these polishes, I have 3 other shades, but something about the name ‘Rosy Cheeks’ just spoke to me. If you’re asking me this is much more coral than rose, but I still really love the shade. It reminds me a lot of Essie’s ‘Cute as a Button’, which I used to own before going cruelty free. It’s a nice formula, opaque in two coats, and doesn’t chip quickly. I really think these polishes from the Body Shop are a great bang for your buck. They’re only 6 bucks, and you can often get two for three deals, and they don’t chip easily.
