Nail Kale – Worth the Hype?

One of the most irritating things in life is when you’ve got a perfect manicure, only to have it ruined by the state of your nails underneath. I’m a 24/7 polish wearer, and I know this isn’t good for my nails, and they’re starting to let me know they’re unhappy. Before going cruelty free, I struggled with my nails peeling. I sorted it out with the OPI Nail Envy base coat, and it did wonders. Unfortunately OPI is not cruelty free, and as I stopped using it, my nails began peeling a few months later. So when Nails Inc brought out their Nail Kale line, I was very intrigued.

Nails Inc Nail Kale Super Food Base Coat – $17.00 CAD

I honestly believe the whole kale thing is nothing more than a gimmick, but aside from that I wanted to give this a fair go. I’ve been using this base coat for 2 months, so I think I can give a fairly honest and in depth review.

The packaging is really, really nice on this polish. It’s one that you take the top off, and then you screw off another lid to get to the brush and product. The bottle is very weighty, which I like. The base coat has a really pretty green colour, however it doesn’t translate to your nails. This base coat also doesn’t stink up the place like a lot of polishes tend to do.

How I like to use this product, is obviously as a base coat. I apply a layer to my nails before every manicure. The base coat dries really nicely, very quickly, and doesn’t make applying polish over top difficult. Since using this top coat, I notice my manicures lasting especially long with no chipping. I haven’t had to re-do a manicure prematurely because of chipping or peeling in ages, and it’s really nice. This base coat claims to stimulate nail growth, hydrate the nail, have anti-breakage and anti-splitting protection, and deep nourishment. While I think it’s tough to speak on the deep nourishment, I do think that this protects my nails from splitting and breaking. My nails genuinely feel very healthy, and grow pretty quickly.

Another great aspect to this base coat is the amazing brush. It makes application a breeze. You can easily coat your nails in two swipes which is fantastic.

I would 10/10 buy this again.

Bamboo White

If you’re like me and one of your hobbies includes watching beauty gurus on YouTube and enable your spending habits, you’ll definitely have heard of this product. Yup, we’re talking about a 28 dollar nail polish today.

Nails Inc by Victoria Beckham Bamboo White – $28.00 CAD

The fact that this even comes in a massive box just proves you’re mostly paying for packaging. Do I care? Not really because this nail polish is very worth the hype. It looks like you’re average nude-pink polish, which I suppose it is in some ways, but this is by leaps and bounds the best polish I have ever used.

The bottle is designed the same as the newly re-branded Nails Inc polishes, the cap comes off and you’ve got your standard polish bottle. The bottle itself is extremely substantial. This bottle’s got quite a weight to it. The bottle is black with little peek-a-boo sides that show you the colour of the polish. A gorgeous nude-pink cream that is so classy looking and goes with everything. It’s one of those shades that looks very pulled together and chic.

The brush is one of the things that I think make this polish worth the price. It’s very wide and very easy to control. You can coat your nail in two passes. This is pretty much a zero clean up polish. You get a near perfect application, even if you have super shaky hands like I do. I also love the formula of this. To me it actually smells good, it certainly does not smell like your typical nail polish.

I needed two coats for the polish to be completely opaque. It dries incredibly fast, and I had not one chip after a full week of wear. NOT ONE. Amazing. This will pretty much be living on my nails until I’ve used it all up, which is something that I’m really dreading, as this is a limited edition product. Always the way.

Kristen

I’ve been on somewhat of a nail polish tear lately. I really have been into finding long lasting, good quality polishes that are… obviously, cruelty free. I finally got my first try at Zoya polishes.

Zoya Professional Nail Lacquer in Kristen – $9.00

Zoya polishes have always interested me because they’re 5 free, meaning they’re made without nasty chemicals like formaldehyde, among others. The packaging is also really, really nice, along with an insane shade range. I decided to go for a blue shade as I don’t have many blue polishes. On the Zoya website they describe this as a grey with a blue hue.. I’d argue the opposite, but to each their own. Especially on the nail this most definitely runs more blue than grey.

I’m not a massive fan of the brush, but if a colour is great in formula and I like how the polish looks. The brush is quite thin which can make for a messy application if you’ve got very unsteady hands like I do. The formula is a cream finish, something I really like about this polish.

I feel like this polish makes me look even more pale than I already am! Maybe once my skin actually meets the sun it will be more complimentary. It takes 2 coats to be perfectly opaque with no streaks, a definite plus. I find the lasting power to be pretty average, about 5 days before serious chipping begins. It did hold up quite well when my boyfriend and I were doing the move-out clean of his old apartment. It only chipped on one finger by the very end.

For the price I’m definitely impressed, I just would lean towards a different shade for my super pale hands. It’s a nice polish to grab when I want to change things up. One thing I should most definitely mention is that this *slightly* stained my nails a kind of grey colour. The stain faded really fast, but I did notice it when I was removing this polish over the course of two manicures.
